Thriving in 2024: Embrace Your Health Journey with Six FREE Wellness Practices!

As the year comes to an end it’s time to start thinking about what you want to focus on for 2024. And we all know the number one new year resolution usually is centered around health, weight and exercising. But quickly after you set your goals, most people do real well the first few weeks and then all the excuses shine through. One of them being “it’s so expensive to be healthy.” I call this an excuse because I don’t believe it’s true. There are so many things you can do for you overall health that do not cost anything. I thought this week would share with you what those are so that as you plan out your goals for 2024 you can include some FREE ways to focus on your overall health.

Intermittent Fasting: If you are looking for a way to cut down on your calories, save money on food, and help your body recover and repair itself, you should try intermittent fasting. Not to mention it gives you some time back in your day because you are not eating three times a day. I have practiced intermittent fasting for about 5 years now and I love not having to eat breakfast every day. I start eating at 11:00am and stop by 7:00pm. I usually eat lunch a snack and dinner. There are so many health benefits to intermittent fasting, here are just a few, weight loss, cellular repair, cardiovascular health, brain health, and improves metabolism.

Cold Showers- I know for some people this sounds like torture but there are so many health benefits to taking a cold shower, start with 30 seconds and work your way up, I do 3 to 5mins. I listen to a meditation that gets me through the feeling of being cold! Here are some of the benefits: Improved circulation, boosts immune system, increases alertness and energy, faster muscle recovery, and enhances skin and hair health.

Meditating: I am a huge proponent of meditation, or just sitting in stillness. Every client or person I have told to meditate the first thing they say is “I don’t meditate” because they can’t stop their brain from thinking, well my friend that is part of meditation, you keep bringing your mind back and focus on your breathing over and over again and it gets easier the more you do it. There is a great app called InsightTimer, I recommend everyone download it and start meditation practice now!! Start with just 5 mins! Here are some benefits to meditation: better sleep, reduces stress, improves emotional well-being, enhances concentration, teaches you how to be present and can reduce blood pressure, inflammation and enhance your immune system.

Grounding- This is an easy practice that most people don’t know about, you walk barefoot on Earths service. All you need is 5 mins a day. Here are some of the benefits: enhanced mood, stress reduction, reduces inflammation, improves sleep, and helps build your immune system.

Drink water- This is one of the easiest ways to improve your health. Most people think they are drinking enough water to stay hydrated, but they are not. I drink at least 128oz a day of water. I always have a water bottle with me and usually a back up water bottle! Increase your water slowly maybe 10-15oz a week till you get to at least 100oz (128oz is even better) and please do not count water that you put Crystal Light or other flavors into, those products make your kidneys work extra hard to filter the dyes and chemicals from the artificial sweeteners. Here are some benefits to being hydrated: Regulates body temperature, healthy skin, joint and muscle support, improves cognitive function, increases energy, natural detox for your body, and increases endurance.

Walking- I am a huge believer in moving your body every day. You can’t have to do some crazy hard-core workout every day but you do need movement. I suggest a 30 min walk every day. It’s a great way to get outside, move your body, and stay active… oh and it’s FREE. Here are some benefits to walking: Joint health, flexibility, increases energy, enhances your mood, improves cardiovascular health, and helps with weight loss or management.

I hope these 6 ideas give you some ideas for what to focus on going into the new year. But don’t think you have to wait for a “new year resolution” to start getting healthy, start today! Next week I will share some things I invested in this year for my health, no they are not free, but I believe we should all invest in our health!
