Have you heard of Cacao? It’s a super food!

I had never head of cacao and then in the same week I heard it a few times. The first time I heard of it, it was round meditation and doing cacao ceremonies which really means setting intensions and gratitude before drinking the cacao and meditation with it.

The second time I heard it was just a few days later in a Podcast about protecting your brain, preventing disease and aging. Cacao is great for your brain, Dr. Amen states it is beneficial for sustaining cognitive performance, improving measures of cognitive abilities such as paying attention, memory and processing speed.

Cacao is also packed with antioxidants, actually 40 times more than blueberries! Cacao also helps support your cardiovascular system, it can decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease, it also lowers your blood pressure, improves blood flow, prevents blood clots. One study shows that eating (or drinking) cacao 5 times a week can lower your risk of heart disease by 57%.

It even helps your gut microbiome, which is also known as your “second brain.” When you drink cacao flavanols you get a prebiotic effect which stimulates the growth of healthy gut bacteria.

One thing I found fascinating is the flavanols in cacao can slow down aging due to being able to delay the onset of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. It can also help your skin look fresh and firm.
