Create an at home gym on a budget!

I am a huge believer that everyone should move their body every day and that everyone should incorporate both strength training and cardio. I know some people don’t like to workout at gyms, they feel more comfortable in their home, while others don’t want to spend the money to go to a gym.

I thought it would be helpful to share different types of equipment that you can buy for minimal cost and get a great workout in at home! You can build your at home gym one piece at a time!

Yes, dumbbells are great to have at home, but they are expensive (usually a dollar a pound) and they take up a lot of room, but if you have the space and can afford dumbbells I would start with 3 pairs, a light weight, medium weight, and heavier weight. Light weights for arms, medium weights for shoulders, legs and chest, and heavy weights for back, chest, and leg exercises.

Resistance bands are a great alternative to dumbbells! There are two kinds I really like, the ones that are loops and the ones that have different resistances and attachments. Another great thing about resistance bands is you can do a full body workout and they travel well!

Resistance bands-

A yoga mat, even if you don’t do yoga it is always good to have a mat to workout on. You can do your core workout and a lot of chest exercises as well are done on the ground. If you do yoga you definitely need a mat!

Rope less jump rope- It’s really hard to jump rope inside but it is a really great cardio workout. These rope less jump ropes are in expensive and a great workout!

A step- Aerobic step is a great addition to your home gym, it helps make a lot of exercises a little more intense. Plus it’s a great way to get a cardio workout it. : Movement God Aerobic Workout Step for Fitness & Exercise W/2 Risers : Sports & Outdoors

If you want to spend a little more money and have some extra room in your house a weight bench is another great investment. You can get one for about $100.

If you like to walk but want to add some intensity to your walk, I suggest getting a weight vest to wear while you walk. I started with 12lbs and now use a 20lbs vest, I feel like I am getting a better workout while I walk my dog. : Prodigen Running Weight Vest for Men Women Kids 8 Lbs Weights Included, Body Weight Vests for Training Workout, Jogging, Cardio, Walking, Elite Adjustable Weighted Vest Workout Equipment-Black,8lbs : Sports & Outdoors

I am a huge fan of at home workouts, I personally love the Beach Body on Demand workouts, I believe it’s $9.99 a month or $99 for the year and it has hundreds of workouts. I think it’s worth the money if you don’t want lots of choices when it comes to your workouts.

These are just a few of the items that will allow you to get a great workout in at home and take up minimal amount of space in your home.
