With Christmas and New Year’s approaching I thought I would share some great books that I have read over the year that 1. would make great Christmas gifts for those hard to buy for people and 2. They are books that could help you reach your goals in 2023.
Be Your Future Self Now, by Dr. Benjamin Hardy. This book is all about thinking about where you want to go in life, where you want to be as your “future self” and creating that life now. I really enjoyed this book, especially as someone who is always thinking about “what do I need to do now to get to where I want to be in 10 years, 15 years, 20 years.” What you are doing today, whether it’s intentional or not, positive or negative, is driving your future self, this book helps point that out and leads you to figure out what you really want.
Mindset by Carol Dweck. I know I have mentioned this book before in my newsletters, that is how much I love it. I have read a lot of books on mindset and this book by far does the best job at explaining the differences in fixed and growth mindset. But what I really like about it is how she breaks it up into different areas of your life. One of my core believes is having a growth mindset and teaching others to do the same, which is probably why I recommend this book so much.
Gratitude Diaries, by Janice Kaplan. This was the book that was featured in the October Joy Box, I enjoyed this book so much because I believe gratitude is the most underutilized daily practice, looking for things to be grateful for can truly change your entire outlook on life. This would be a great goal for 2023, the author spends every month of the year focusing on a different area of her life to be grateful for and talks to experts about the science being practicing gratitude.
The Mountain is You: Transforming Self Sabotage into Self Mastery, by Brianna Wiest. If the title doesn’t tell you about the book itself let me just say I highly encourage everyone to read this one. Thing about your goal setting, how many times do you sabotage yourself, so you don’t reach what you are striving for? I am going to guess a lot of times this happens. This is one of those books you will read and want to read again.
You Can Heal Your Life, Louise Hay. This is an oldie but a goodie! This book first came out in 1984. Louise Hay is one of the first self-help authors to really focus on the mind/body connection and how powerful our thoughts truly are. This book can really be eye opening with it’s simple examples of small changes that you can make to improve your life.
Atomic Habits, by James Clear. I am sure by now most people have read this book but if you haven’t, this is a great book to set yourself up for success in 2023 and to reach your goals no matter what they are. Clear does a great job breaking down how to slowly create habits that you want to focus on. Remember we all have habits, but some may not be healthy, good or productive.
The Book of Boundaries: Set the Limits That Will Set You Free, By Melissa Urban. I just finished this book a few weeks ago and highly encourage anyone who has a hard time setting boundaries in their life to read this book. She does an excellent job breaking down different areas of your life that may need boundaries and then giving you what she calls yellow, green, and red boundaries for different situations. I know a lot of people have a hard time setting boundaries in their personal and work life, this would also be a great goal for 2023 to work on setting more boundaries.
Joy Seeker, by Shannon Kaiser. I loved this book so much I put it in my Joy Box. This book helps you find what truly brings you joy, guides you to finding your purpose, your passion. The author does a great job telling her story and then giving you journal prompts to help you discover what brings you joy and what your next steps should be.
